The duo of Themb Moyo and Lisa Phendla, South African entrepreneurs have taken messaging app to another level by the release of Teta, a social media and instant messaging app that allows users to continue communicating and socializing among themselves even when they have ran out of airtime or internet data.
Wondering how that could be possible?
Like many other messaging apps out there, Teta allows its users to chat, send/receive files and also to participate in chatrooms without incurring any form of mobile network/data charges so long as they are accessing the service through a participating network provider.
The system is integrated upon the Vodacom network South African platform that is used by Absa Bank and that gives its customers the leverage to access their banking services at no cost.
Therefore the free service is currently only available for Vodacom South African participants, while others using Teta with any other networks will have to incur the normal data or airtime charges.

The developers of this app are hopping to extend the free service to other networks like MTN and Telkom in the closest future as user base increases with time.
Those on android platform can download Teta on Google Playstore whereas those running iOS will have to wait until next year before Teta will be taken to them.
Teta reminds us of 2GO, a South African Instant messaging app of old that once dominated the mobile social media environment but it's quickly losing grip in recent time.
